Marcus Rashford has no interest in a move to Aston Villa despite Unai Emery’s best efforts to bring the Manchester United owned winger back to the Midlands.
The England international spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa Park and worked under Emery. It went well. Four goals. Six assists. Seventeen matches. A player reborn after his nightmare first half of the campaign under Ruben Amorim at United.
But that was then. This is now.
Barcelona has his heart
Rashford has kicked on at Barcelona this season. Fourteen goals. Fourteen assists. Forty eight appearances. He’s found a home.
And he doesn’t want to leave.
TEAMtalk’s transfer insider Graeme Bailey has confirmed that Rashford is “determined to stay” at the Camp Nou. Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has personally urged president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco to get a deal done.
The problem? Barcelona’s finances.
The financial roadblock
The Catalan giants have a €30million (£26m) buy option in Rashford’s contract. That’s not a huge fee in today’s market. But for Barcelona still navigating La Liga’s financial controls, it’s complicated.
Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona would ideally like another loan deal before making it permanent in 2027. That reluctance has opened the door for Emery to rekindle his interest.
But Rashford isn’t walking through it.
‘His intention is to explore all options to remain at the Camp Nou’
Mundo Deportivo’s headline says it all: ‘Unai Emery will push hard for Rashford and Barca know it’.
The report states that Emery ‘is prepared to make a strong bid’ for the winger. But it also makes clear where Rashford’s head is at.
‘His intention is to explore all options to remain at the Camp Nou, either through a permanent transfer or a loan. The English winger is determined to stay at Barca, as MD has already reported, and believes he’s earning his place.’
Bailey has echoed that: Rashford ‘only wants to stay at Barcelona and currently has little desire to return to England this summer.’
What happens next?
Barcelona want him. Flick wants him. Rashford wants to stay.
The only question is whether the club can structure a deal that works within their financial constraints. Another loan? A permanent transfer with deferred payments? Something creative?
Villa are waiting in the wings. Emery is keen. But unless Barcelona completely fail to get a deal over the line, Rashford isn’t going anywhere.
He’s found his level. His happiness. His form.
And he’s not giving that up for a reunion in the Midlands. No matter how hard Emery pushes.
