Branimir Hrgota is leaving Greuther Fürth this summer. The Swedish marksman will depart after seven long years at the club.

The 2.Bundesliga side have been informed. Hrgota has decided to move on at the end of the 2025/2026 season. He will not accept the club’s offer to extend his contract.

A new challenge awaits.

‘WE’VE EXPERIENCED SO MUCH TOGETHER’

The 33 year old broke the news in an emotional statement online.

“When I came to Fürth in 2019, I didn’t think it would become the longest stint of my career,” he said.

“We’ve experienced so much together, certainly culminating in promotion, but for me personally, it’s also been the privilege of leading the team as captain for so long.”

Hrgota was keen to deflect attention away from himself.

“I don’t want the focus to be too much on me now, because we as a team, as a club, are facing incredibly important matches that we absolutely want to win.”

THE NUMBERS THAT MADE HIM A LEGEND

In 238 matches for Fürth, Hrgota scored 69 goals and provided 41 assists. That makes him the club’s all time leading scorer in the top two divisions.

Not bad for a player who arrived thinking he’d stay a year or two.

FÜRSTNER: ‘HIS CONTRIBUTIONS ARE EXCEPTIONAL’

Sporting director Stephan Fürstner paid tribute to the departing captain.

“Brane is an incredibly deserving player, and therefore we must accept his decision to seek a new challenge,” he said.

“His contributions to our club are exceptional and will secure him a permanent place in the history books.

“We all want this story to have a happy ending, and we will give our all to achieve that.”

THE BOTTOM LINE

Hrgota wants one last push before he goes. Fürth have important matches ahead. A happy ending would be promotion, or at least a strong finish.

Seven years. 238 games. 69 goals. One captain.

The Swede leaves as a legend. Now he wants to sign off in style.

Where he ends up next? That’s for the summer. First, there’s business to finish.
