BASEL, Switzerland – Switzerland moved closer to a sixth consecutive World Cup qualification with a commanding 3-0 victory over Slovenia on Tuesday, maintaining their perfect start to Group B and extending their dominance over their opponents.

The Swiss secured the points with a devastating first-half display, scoring three times in 18 minutes. Nico Elvedi opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a precise header from a Rubén Vargas corner before Breel Embolo doubled the advantage just after the half-hour mark, nodding in another set-piece delivery for his sixth goal in five international appearances. Dan Ndoye completed the flurry five minutes later, lashing a finish into the roof of the net after being set up by Remo Freuler.

Slovenia, who entered the match unbeaten in their previous six qualifiers, offered little response until Benjamin Šeško forced a save from Gregor Kobel in the second half. The victory extends Switzerland’s winning streak to five matches and leaves them with a three-point lead at the top of the group, having scored seven goals without conceding in their opening two qualifiers.

For Slovenia, the defeat represents a significant setback in their bid to qualify for their first World Cup since 2010, leaving them with just one point from two matches. Switzerland will look to maintain their momentum when qualifying resumes in October, while Slovenia face a crucial match against group rivals Sweden.
