ZALAEGERSZEG, Hungary – Scotland maintained their strong away form in World Cup qualifying with a 2-0 victory over Belarus on Tuesday, moving joint-top of their group with four points from two matches.

Playing at a neutral venue in Hungary, Steve Clarke’s side broke through just before halftime when Ché Adams tapped home Scott McTominay’s headed assist from close range. The Scots doubled their advantage in the 65th minute through a fortunate deflection, as Billy Gilmour’s attempted header across goal ricocheted off Belarus defender Zakhar Volkov and into the net.

The match marked Scotland’s fourth win in their last five away qualifying matches, though they were made to work for the result against a disciplined Belarus side. Angus Gunn was rarely tested in the Scottish goal, with Belarus’s best opportunity falling to Max Ebong in the first half, who fired straight at the goalkeeper from a narrow angle.

The victory places Scotland level with Denmark at the top of their qualifying group, while Belarus remain bottom after suffering consecutive defeats to begin their campaign. Scotland will look to build on their positive start when qualifying resumes in October, with Clarke’s side aiming to secure a place in the 2026 World Cup following their disappointing group-stage exit in the 2024 European Championship.
