Borussia Dortmund legend Marco Reus has thrown his weight behind a sensational return for Jadon Sancho, insisting the winger would be welcomed back with open arms at the Westfalenstadion.

The 36 year old, who shared a dressing room with Sancho across two separate spells, reckons a reunion makes perfect sense for all parties.

“My main advice to Jadon is to look for a place where he feels at home again and can rediscover his form,” Reus told Sport Bild.

“And if that’s at BVB, then it would be good for both him and Dortmund!”

It’s high praise from a man who knows a thing or two about what makes a player tick in black and yellow.

Reus and Sancho were teammates between 2017 and 2021, then again during the Englishman’s loan spell in the second half of the 2023/24 season. And the veteran playmaker hasn’t forgotten the magic his former colleague produced in his prime.

“I have rarely played alongside a player who made such good decisions instinctively and in tight situations,” Reus added.

Those are the kind of references that carry serious weight inside the Dortmund hierarchy.

And according to Bild, the club led by president Hans Joachim Watzke, are indeed interested in bringing Sancho back for a third act. But it won’t be on just any old terms.

Despite the fact the winger is available on a free transfer this summer, Dortmund are refusing to get carried away. They’re not prepared to cough up a signing on fee and are looking to structure a deal with a base salary of no more than five million euros plus add ons.

It’s a far cry from the mega money move that took him to Manchester United for £85million back in 2021.

That move, of course, never really worked out. A loan back to Dortmund followed in January 2024, then a season long stint at Chelsea, before he found himself at Aston Villa for the current campaign.

For Unai Emery’s side, currently sitting fourth in the Premier League, Sancho has managed just one goal and three assists in 31 appearances. Not exactly the kind of numbers that scream “must sign” unless you’re Dortmund, that is.

Because if there’s one club that knows how to get the best out of the 26 year old, it’s BVB.

Reus clearly believes the magic can be rediscovered.

And with Dortmund holding the cards on a cut price deal, this could be one of those summer moves that just feels inevitable.
