Everton are reportedly keen on signing West Ham United star Jarrod Bowen.
The Toffees reinforced the right flank by purchasing Tyler Dibling from Southampton last summer. The 20 year old has struggled to find his feet in his new surroundings, starting only four Premier League games.
Dwight McNeil is another specialist option on the right flank. But he’s set to enter the final year of his current contract.
Now, Everton are prioritising signing a new winger this summer. Bowen has been identified as a serious option. David Moyes is ‘keen’ on signing an experienced, proven player.
Relegation could force West Ham’s hand
West Ham are looking likely to endure relegation. If they fail to stay in the Premier League, they might be forced to cash in on Bowen.
The 29 year old’s existing deal runs until 2030. West Ham are in a strong position to demand a big fee if they eventually fail to keep hold of him. Transfermarkt values Bowen at around £30m.
Newcastle United are also interested. Moyes’ side will have to overcome stiff competition.
The Bowen Moyes connection
Although West Ham have displayed awful performances this season, Bowen has showcased his productivity. Ten goals. Eleven assists. Across all competitions.
Bowen is a left footed right winger by trait but is also comfortable centrally if needed. He showcased his best at the London Stadium under Moyes and even won the Conference League.
The forward might be open to reuniting with his former boss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
A Premier League proven coup
Bowen is at the prime stage of his career. A Premier League proven player. He would be a great coup for Everton should they purchase him.
The question is whether Everton can get the deal done. And whether Bowen would fancy a move to Merseyside over other interested parties.
The bottom line
Everton’s chance of qualifying for European competition is looking bleak after a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Sunderland. But that won’t stop them from trying to improve the squad.
Bowen is a statement signing. Experienced. Proven. Productive.
Moyes knows him. Trusts him. Has won trophies with him.
Now Everton need to make it happen before someone else does.
