Barcelona are edging towards a long awaited resolution on Ansu Fati, with AS Monaco increasingly convinced by the Spaniard’s loan spell and preparing to explore a permanent transfer worth around €11 million.

It has been a difficult few years for the once hyped forward. Injuries. Inconsistency. A loss of rhythm. But in Ligue 1, something is stirring.

According to SPORT, Monaco’s sporting department is satisfied enough with Fati’s progress to consider activating the purchase option included in his loan agreement. The exact structure of the clause remains undisclosed, but estimates suggest a deal worth approximately €11m.

The numbers: a revival in progress

Let us be clear. This is not the same Ansu Fati who burst onto the scene at Camp Nou, breaking records and drawing comparisons to Lionel Messi. That player may never return.

But the numbers are heading in the right direction.

Across 24 appearances for Monaco, Fati has registered nine goals and accumulated close to 1,000 minutes of Ligue 1 action. He is playing regularly. He is contributing. And most importantly, he is rebuilding his confidence.

At Barcelona, that platform had disappeared. The injuries had taken their toll. The competition for places was fierce. A loan move was the only sensible option.

Now, Monaco want to make it permanent.

Fati open to staying

Crucially, the player himself is open to leaving Barcelona permanently and continuing his journey with Monaco. That is a significant shift from previous windows, when Fati was reluctant to cut ties with his boyhood club.

But reality bites. Barcelona need to offload wages. Fati needs to play. Monaco offer both.

The complication? Money.

Monaco are reportedly hesitant to meet the €11m valuation in full and are instead hoping to negotiate a reduced fee. They also have concerns about Fati’s current contract, which runs until 2028 and includes wages that exceed Monaco’s current structure.

Barcelona, for their part, have chosen to remain silent publicly. But privately, there is an understanding that a solution must be found.

Positive relations

One factor working in everyone’s favour is the relationship between the two clubs. Relations are described as positive, which could help smooth negotiations in the coming weeks.

This is not the first time Monaco and Barcelona have done business. The clubs have a history of finding common ground.

What comes next

Fati’s future will not be resolved overnight. Monaco want to drive the price down. Barcelona want to get a difficult contract off their books. And the player wants clarity.

But for the first time in years, there is a genuine sense that a resolution is within reach.

Ansu Fati will always be a what if story at Barcelona. The injuries. The timing. The weight of expectation. But at Monaco, he has a chance to write a different ending.

And if the two clubs can agree on a fee, that ending will be written in Ligue 1, not La Liga.
