TURIN, June 24 Betandsured. Juventus are reconsidering a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka as Paris Saint Germain have expressed interest in signing Khephren Thuram during ongoing discussions over Randal Kolo Muani’s potential return to Turin .
The Bianconeri face a challenging summer transfer window without Champions League football, with new CEO Giovanni Carnevali tasked with strengthening Luciano Spalletti’s squad under financial constraints . Dusan Vlahovic is almost certain to depart on a free transfer when his contract expires this month, leaving a significant void in attack .
Talks between Juventus and PSG over Kolo Muani have progressed, with the French striker keen on returning to the Allianz Stadium after a loan spell in 2025 and subsequent season at Tottenham Hotspur . However, PSG are holding out for a fee in the region of €35/40 million, while Juventus are exploring a loan with an obligation to buy to manage costs . Discussions between the clubs have reportedly been placed on hold due to the valuation gap, with the European champions unwilling to lower their demands .
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Thuram’s name has emerged during these negotiations, with PSG registering interest in the France international . The 25 year old midfielder is said to be open to a move to Paris, viewing it as an opportunity to strengthen his chances of a regular place in the national team alongside his brother Marcus . The move would also represent a significant financial opportunity for Juventus, who signed Thuram from OGC Nice for approximately €20 million in 2024 and could now double their investment .
Crucially, La Gazzetta dello Sport specifies that the two clubs would conduct separate deals for Thuram and Kolo Muani rather than a player plus cash exchange .
Should Juventus sanction Thuram’s departure, Goretzka has emerged as the preferred replacement . The 31 year old German international is expected to become available on a free transfer upon the expiry of his Bayern Munich contract later this week . Goretzka, who has over 500 professional appearances and a Champions League winners’ medal from 2020, would bring considerable experience and leadership to Spalletti’s midfield . His versatility in deep lying roles would allow the coach flexibility to deploy either a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 system .
The financial aspect remains the primary obstacle. Goretzka is understood to be seeking a salary in the region of €7 million annually plus a signing bonus, a significant outlay for a club without Champions League revenue . Juventus had previously shown interest in Goretzka but have been cautious about committing to substantial financial obligations given their current circumstances . The club had also been linked with Arsenal for the midfielder’s signature, though the Gunners’ interest may have cooled given their established midfield options .
Goretzka had been linked with a move to Milan before their failure to qualify for the Champions League and subsequent front office changes halted progress on that front . Whether Juventus, in a similar position, can convince the German to move to Serie A remains to be seen .
