Manchester United showcased an outstanding performance to thrash Everton 4-0 at Old Trafford, marking it five victories in seven unbeaten matches, three of which have occurred under fresh manager Ruben Amorim.

After securing his debut triumph since assuming the reins in Europe on Thursday, Amorim was now targeting his maiden PL success as United manager. The hosts began strongly, dominating the ball and creating chances along both flanks via the revamped wing-back strategy introduced at Old Trafford. Everton required some time to find rhythm, but after the 15-minute mark, Sean Dyche’s squad began to pose threats on the break, with Beto leading the charge. The striker seized on a misplaced ball from Diogo Dalot but after surging into the area, his effort was dragged wide.

Just as the Toffees appeared to be gaining momentum, United struck the breakthrough on 34 minutes. A cleverly executed corner tactic saw Bruno Fernandes locate Marcus Rashford at the edge of the area, and the forward’s volley ricocheted off Jarrad Branthwaite for his second strike in two league appearances. The momentum was with the Red Devils, and the home side swiftly extended their advantage before halftime. Amad Diallo expertly intercepted the ball deep in the Everton half, enabling Fernandes to drive into the area and deliver a square pass for Joshua Zirkzee to tap in—scoring his first goal since the opening weekend of the season.

Dyche would have demanded better from his team after the interval, but their hopes of a rally were shattered within 21 seconds of the second half as United added a third. Amad surged down the right flank and threaded Rashford in, who secured his brace by slipping the ball through Pickford’s legs. Visibly rattled, Everton’s players found it hard to regain control of the game, eventually conceding a fourth shortly after the 60-minute mark as Amad once more sliced through the Toffees’ backline and set up Zirkzee, who calmly finished.

Amorim capitalized on the opportunity to rotate his squad in preparation for their upcoming clash with archrivals Arsenal, effectively neutralizing the match’s tempo in the process. Everton struggled to recover after conceding early in the second half, allowing United to cruise to a fourth successive victory at Old Trafford—their first Premier League win by a margin of four or more goals since August 2021. A sixth loss in 13 outings leaves the Toffees dangerously close to the drop zone, with only two points separating them and Wolves in 18th.
