Kylian Mbappe is supposed to be the heir to Cristiano Ronaldo’s throne at Real Madrid. Instead, he’s staring down a petition demanding his exit, with over 70 million signatures.

Let that sink in.

The Frenchman arrived in 2024 after an elongated saga that stretched patience, sanity and transfer budgets. Fans was ecstatic. Finally, the missing piece. The player who would lead Madrid back to European glory.

Fast forward two years. Madrid are set to go empty handed for back to back seasons. No direction. No identity. And Mbappe? He’s been booed by his own fans. Multiple times.

Now he’s injured. Used the recovery time for a quick vacation. The fans noticed. They didn’t like it.

Ronaldo faced the same and conquered it

Here’s the thing. Real Madrid’s fanbase is passionate. Demanding. Sometimes brutal. They’ve turned on their own before. Even the greats.

Cristiano Ronaldo, the man Mbappe idolises, faced similar hostility during his Los Blancos career. Boos. Whistles. Questions about his commitment.

But Ronaldo had a superpower: an unshakeable, never give up attitude. He bounced back every single time. Silenced critics through performances. Became the greatest this club has ever seen.

Mbappe needs to take a page out of that playbook.

The numbers aren’t the problem

Here’s the paradox. Mbappe is currently the highest goalscorer in both La Liga and the Champions League. His individual stats are elite.

But goals don’t tell the whole story. Fans are angry because those numbers haven’t translated into results. Madrid are trophyless. The connection between star and club feels broken.

There are areas Mbappe can improve. But he’s not the only one to blame for Madrid’s misfortune. The defence is leaky. The midfield lacks balance. The manager, Alvaro Arbeloa, is a caretaker who looks out of his depth.

Yet Mbappe wears the No.10. He’s the marquee name. The one who cost a fortune in wages and bonuses. The spotlight falls on him.

What he must do now

First, ignore the noise. The petition. The boos. The critics. Use it as fuel.

Second, stop taking vacations during injury recovery. Perception matters. When fans see you on a beach while the team struggles, they draw conclusions.

Third and most importantly deliver. Not just goals. Big moments. Clutch performances. Trophies.

Ronaldo didn’t win over Madrid fans by apologising or explaining. He won by scoring hat tricks against Barcelona and banging in winners in Champions League finals.

Mbappe is a lifelong Ronaldo fan. He’s watched the tape. He knows the blueprint.

Now he needs to follow it or his Real Madrid career will be remembered as the greatest flop of the modern era.
