Marco Silva is confident his Fulham side can unsettle Arsenal at the Emirates and deal a major blow to the Gunners’ Premier League title hopes.
The Cottagers could land a decisive punch on Saturday evening. Three points for Fulham would keep alive their own dreams of European qualification, while potentially derailing Arsenal’s entire season.
And Silva reckons the Emirates could be a factor. A nervy one.
‘A TENSE ENVIRONMENT DEPENDS ON US’
Speaking ahead of the clash, Silva was asked whether Arsenal’s high stakes run in could create tension inside the stadium.
“Let’s hope we can use it,” he said. “That depends on us, it depends on them, and it depends on many things.”
His message was clear: Fulham have a role to play in making the home crowd uncomfortable.
“Whether the environment is tense or not depends on how we play and whether we are good enough to make it happen. Simple as that.”
Silva knows his history. Fulham have never lost by more than one goal against Arsenal since their promotion back to the top tier in 2022. Expect a tight one. Expect the nerves to show.
‘ARSENAL ARE THE MOST SOLID TEAM IN THE LEAGUE’
Silva isn’t daft. He knows what Arsenal are.
“They are a top side, a side that are title contenders, that play to win all of their games, but are also the most solid team in the league,” he said.
“They are a team that, even if they are not playing at their best level, they have other ways to punish the opposition. They are very difficult to play against.”
That’s the warning. Arsenal don’t have to be brilliant to beat you. They can grind. They can defend. They can nick a set piece.
‘THEIR SQUAD DEPTH IS BETTER THAN SEASONS BEFORE’
Here’s where Silva really took note. Arsenal’s attacking options are ridiculous now.
“You try to analyse them, and against Atletico Madrid, the frontline was Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Odegaard, Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli,” he said.
“But it could be Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze and Leandro Trossard. It’s clear for us that their squad depth is better than seasons before, so they can totally change their frontline.”
That’s £180million worth of attackers signed last summer. And they can all do a job.
‘WE WILL FIGHT’
Silva isn’t just turning up to make up the numbers.
“We also enjoy this type of situation,” he said. “We just have to look at ourselves and be competitive to fight for the three points. Three points to fight for and we will fight.”
Arsenal are coming off Champions League commitments in midweek. Silva hopes any post European fatigue plays into Fulham’s favour.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Arsenal can go six points clear with a win. City don’t play until Monday. The pressure is on the Gunners to deliver.
But Silva smells an opportunity. A tense Emirates. A tired Arsenal. A Fulham side that never gets blown away.
If the Cottagers pull this off? The title race gets very, very interesting. Very messy. And Marco Silva will be the one smiling.
