Luke Shaw and Bruno Fernandes have made their feelings crystal clear about former Manchester United teammate Alejandro Garnacho posting a picture of the Argentine being shoved to the ground and laughing all the way to the Champions League chase.
United beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge yesterday. Three points. Another step closer to a top four finish. But the real entertainment came after the final whistle.
Shaw took to social media with an image of himself physically dominating Garnacho, who left Old Trafford last summer. The caption? Simple. Brutal. “Important win 💪.”
Then came the cavalry.
‘That’s a violation’
Bruno Fernandes, United’s captain, was quick to pile on. He commented with a GIF that said exactly what everyone was thinking: “That’s a violation.”
Seventy seven thousand likes in seven hours. The fans loved it.
YouTuber Angry Ginge went further, asking: “Who’s that t*** from Argentina?” Shaw liked the comment. No apology. No filter. Just honest feeling.
Matheus Cunha who scored the winning goal, joined in with “My duo.” Youngsters Tyler Fletcher and Shea Lacey added laughing emojis. The whole dressing room was in on it.
Garnacho’s regrets
The Argentinian became a divisive figure during his final season at United. He recently admitted to having regrets over his exit. That will not make him many friends in the Old Trafford dressing room.
And last night, his former teammates made it clear there is no love lost.
Shaw’s post was not subtle. Neither was Bruno’s response. Garnacho will have seen it. And he will know exactly where he stands.
Carrick: ‘We managed to find it’
On the pitch, United got the job done. Michael Carrick was left pleased with the result, if not the performance.
“They’re the moments we live for really, that’s why we’re in it,” the interim boss said. “For big games, important games, big performances.
“It was an important win for us tonight in different ways, coming through the suspensions and the injuries… The boys take so much credit for that.
“We can play a little bit better at times, but I thought it was a game for a result and we managed to find it.”
The bottom line
United need two more wins to guarantee Champions League football. Chelsea are in the rearview mirror. The run in is clear.
But the real story from last night? The social media pile on. The lack of sympathy. The message sent.
Garnacho is gone. United have moved on. And if Shaw and Bruno have anything to do with it, no one will be missing him any time soon.
