Manchester City’s season is hanging by a thread but the injury news ahead of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Arsenal is largely positive .
The Blues were dumped out of the Champions League on Tuesday night, losing 2-1 to Real Madrid at the Etihad (5-1 on aggregate) in a game that saw Bernardo Silva sent off after 20 minutes . Now they must pick themselves up for Wembley.
THE HAALAND SCARE
Erling Haaland was substituted midway through the second half while City were chasing the game, raising eyebrows and concerns. But Pep Guardiola was quick to shut down any injury talk afterwards.
The Norwegian is fine. Just fatigue. He’ll be ready for the final.
THE RETURNS
Savinho taken off at half time in the first leg last week with a hamstring issue, missed West Ham, but returned to the bench on Tuesday night. Available.
John Stones felt his ankle in training last week, missed West Ham as a precaution, but started at Newcastle in the FA Cup and returned to the bench against Real. Available.
Rico Lewis ankle swelling kept him out of the Madrid trip and West Ham, but he’s back on the bench. Available.
THE LONG TERM
Josko Gvardiol fractured his leg in the January draw with Chelsea. Out for the season, racing to be fit for the World Cup this summer. No chance for Sunday.
Max Alleyne travelled to Madrid last week but hasn’t featured since. Knock. Doubtful for the final.
THE VERDICT
City have their key men back. Haaland, Stones, Savinho, Lewis, all available for Wembley.
Now they need to find a performance. Arsenal await. The season depends on it.
