Elliot Anderson is set to become the most sought after midfielder in the country this summer, with Manchester United, Manchester City and Newcastle all ready to battle for his signature .
The 23 year old has been a revelation for Nottingham Forest this season, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most complete defensive midfielders . Now the vultures are circling, and it’ll take £90/100m to land him .
THE INTEREST
According to TeamTalk, the race is well and truly on:
Manchester United have a “strong interest” and view Anderson as a key target to strengthen their midfield base
Manchester City are in “pole position” Pep Guardiola sees him as the ideal long term successor to Rodri
Newcastle United are keeping tabs on their former academy product, and would consider breaking their transfer record if they lose Sandro Tonali or Bruno Guimaraes
That’s three of the biggest clubs in the country, all ready to spend nine figures on one player.
THE PLAYER
Anderson came through Newcastle’s academy but joined Forest in 2024 in a deal worth around £35m . Since then, he’s gone from strength to strength.
This season, he’s played 32 games, contributed four goals and six assists , and established himself as a Scotland international. He’s combative, composed on the ball, and reads the game exceptionally well for his age.
Forest will fight to keep him. But if a £100m offer arrives, that’s life changing money for a club of their size.
THE NEWCASTLE CONNECTION
The most intriguing angle? A return to St James’ Park.
Anderson grew up in the North East and came through the academy. He’s a Geordie boy who made his name at the club before being sold. If Newcastle come calling, there’s an emotional pull that money can’t buy.
But they’d need to raise funds first. If Tonali or Guimaraes leave and both have been linked with moves away, the Magpies could reinvest in their former star.
THE VERDICT
£100m is a lot for a player with one elite season under his belt. But Anderson has all the tools to justify it, age, homegrown status, Premier League experience, and the kind of defensive intelligence that’s rare in young midfielders.
City are in pole position. United are desperate. Newcastle have the emotional card.
This one’s going to run all summer.
