Real Madrid are plotting an ambitious summer move for Paris Saint Germain’s Vitinha, with club sources believing the Portuguese midfielder is the transformative presence needed to revive their underperforming engine room.

Following a season of frustration marked by a painful Champions League collapse against Benfica and domestic cup exits, the focus at the Bernabéu has sharpened on a major midfield revamp. While several names have been linked, Diario AS reports that Vitinha has emerged as a primary target, seen as a player who “can make a difference” and bring immediate elite level quality.

The 25 year old, who finished third in last year’s Ballon d’Or voting after starring in PSG’s quadruple winning campaign, fits the profile perfectly: a dynamic, box to box operator with a proven creative output (13 goal contributions already this term). His performances have drawn rave reviews, with Tottenham boss Thomas Frank labelling him “the best midfielder in the world” after a Champions League hat trick in November.

However, a deal will be far from straightforward. Vitinha remains a cornerstone of Luis Enrique’s project and has three years left on his contract, placing PSG in a position of strength. Madrid’s strategy is reportedly reliant on the player’s camp pushing for the move, as negotiating directly with the French giants is seen as notoriously difficult.

The interest signals a shift in Madrid’s transfer thinking. While they continue to track younger prospects like Feyenoord’s Kees Smit, there is a growing recognition within the club that the squad lacks ready made, world class experience in its core. Vitinha, at his peak and proven on the biggest stages, represents the kind of statement signing that could accelerate their rebuild.

For now, it’s a waiting game. Madrid admire the player, but need him to make the first move. If he does, a summer saga that could redefine their midfield for years to come will be officially underway.
