German Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen are receptive to proposals for Nigeria international striker Victor Boniface in the summer.

Boniface, who is set for another stint on the sidelines after sustaining a thigh injury while representing Nigeria, still has four years remaining on his contract at the club he joined during the summer of 2023.

Nonetheless, the club intends to restructure their team next summer. Boniface, who was named rookie of the year last season after scoring 14 goals and providing nine assists in his debut campaign, is regarded as a player who could bring the club a substantial sum to reinvest in the squad.

A transfer fee around €30m would be sufficient to secure the forward, who has struggled with fitness problems since missing a considerable portion of the latter half of last season due to a thigh injury while training with the Super Eagles for the AFCON.

His inability to reproduce his club performances for the senior Nigeria team has attracted significant criticism from both media and supporters. He concluded the AFCON Qualifiers without scoring, despite featuring in all their matches.

This season, he has netted 8 goals in 15 appearances across all tournaments, but he is unlikely to enhance that tally this year. Head coach Xavi Alonso has indicated that he may be sidelined until next year.

“A few matches. We’ll assess how long. He picked up a minor injury to his thigh. So we’ll monitor, but tomorrow, against Salzburg, he won’t be available. It’s too early to predict. We’re hopeful he’ll return this year, but we must evaluate his recovery. However, he won’t be out for 6-8 weeks,” Alonso stated during the press conference before their league fixture against FC Heidenheim.
