Forwards Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford are swiftly adjusting to Aston Villa’s playing style and gaining confidence, according to manager Unai Emery. Their growing synergy was on display once again as they played a crucial role in securing a 2-0 victory over Cardiff City, propelling the club into the FA Cup quarter-finals.

In Friday’s match at Villa Park, Rashford provided the assist for Asensio’s opener against the English second-tier side. This continued their strong partnership, as the England international had also set up both of Asensio’s goals in last Saturday’s dramatic 2-1 Premier League win over Chelsea. Rashford is currently on loan from Manchester United, while Asensio has joined from Paris Saint-Germain.

“They are adapting well to our system,” Emery told reporters.

“They bring a lot of quality to our setup, contributing effectively with goals and assists while becoming more comfortable within the team. Their confidence is growing, and that’s crucial. Every player is committed to strengthening our structure, ensuring we become as competitive as possible.”

Emery emphasized the significance of reaching the FA Cup quarter-finals for the first time in a decade but remained cautious about labeling Villa as outright favorites, given the presence of clubs like Manchester City, Manchester United, and Newcastle United in the competition.

“This tournament represents an opportunity for a trophy, a chance to play at Wembley, and a path to the Europa League,” Emery noted. “The club and supporters are excited and motivated to embrace this challenge alongside us.”

Villa will now shift their focus to the Champions League, where they will face Belgian side Club Brugge in the first leg of their round of 16 tie on Tuesday.
