Real Madrid still have an important decision to make regarding the future of Nico Paz. Fresh comments from Cesc Fabregas have now provided more insight into the ongoing situation.

The Argentine youngster has enjoyed another impressive season with Como. His performances have naturally attracted growing attention ahead of the summer window.

Real Madrid continue to hold significant control over the player’s future thanks to the buy back clauses included in the original agreement between both clubs.

Fabregas reveals talks

Fabregas, who has played a major role in Nico’s development in Italy, confirmed that discussions with Real Madrid have already started, although the process still appears to be at an early stage.

“We’ve started talking a little while ago, not long, but a little bit yes,” the Como manager said, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

“Let’s let their people and our people get on with their work, and let’s talk to Real Madrid.”

The Spanish coach also said that the midfielder remains fully committed to Como despite all the speculation.

“You can see how much he cares, and how he was the other day on the bench; even without playing, he felt it more than anyone else. And that speaks for itself, doesn’t it?”

He later concluded: “So… that’s all. We’ll see what happens.”

Real Madrid still control Nico Paz

Despite the uncertainty, Real Madrid remain in a very strong position. The club inserted three separate buy back clauses when they allowed the midfielder to join Como, ensuring they would maintain long term control over one of their brightest young talents.

The first clause valued at €8m for the summer of 2025 is no longer active. However, Los Blancos still have the possibility of bringing him back for €9m in 2026 or €10m in 2027.

What does Nico want?

For now, neither Como nor Nico himself have received a final answer from Real Madrid regarding the club’s plans. Reports suggest the player would personally prefer to remain in Italy for one more season before eventually returning to the Santiago Bernabéu.

That possibility makes sense from a sporting perspective. Nico continues to receive regular minutes under Fabregas and is developing in a competitive environment without any pressure.

The bottom line

Real Madrid hold the cards. €9m in 2026. €10m in 2027. Two chances to bring him back.

Fabregas wants to keep him. Nico wants to stay another year. But Madrid’s decision will dictate everything.

Talks have started. No final answer yet. The ball is in Real Madrid’s court.
