PARIS. Paris Saint Germain have declared both Vitinha and Joao Neves untouchable this summer, delivering a firm response to Real Madrid’s reported interest in the Portuguese midfield pair that goes beyond a simple price tag and amounts to a sporting declaration of intent .

The stance, reported by Get French Football News citing Fabrizio Romano, comes as Florentino Pérez embarks on a new presidential term at the Bernabéu. The wording is significant: PSG are not merely setting a valuation but issuing a definitive statement that neither player is available under any circumstances .

Represented by super agent Jorge Mendes, both midfielders are understood to be content in the French capital, eliminating any suggestion that Madrid could build pressure through the player side . The message shuts down two problems simultaneously: blocking the idea that Madrid can destabilise through speculation, and protecting Luis Enrique from a summer defined by uncertainty around the very zone that makes his team coherent .

The tactical significance of PSG’s midfield axis
Vitinha functions as the controller, dictating tempo and orchestrating play from deep areas. Neves, by contrast, is the accelerator, dueller and vertical connector, providing the energy and forward thrust that allows PSG’s full backs to play aggressively and their forwards to press early . Separate them, and PSG lose more than two outstanding individuals; they lose the rhythm that enables their centre backs to defend with the ball rather than behind it .

The evidence for their importance has been built on the pitch. PSG’s Ballon d’Or announcement last year listed both Vitinha and Neves among a record nine club representatives across the major men’s categories . Neves’ first season in Paris was framed around 59 appearances, seven goals and 10 assists by the official club website .

The domestic indicators point in the same direction. PSG’s UNFP awards review noted that Vitinha was among the Ligue 1 Player of the Season nominees and was later named in the league’s team of the season, while Neves was again tied to the young player conversation . That provides Paris with public, award backed justification for treating both as pillars rather than portfolio pieces.

A different kind of transfer stance
Clubs often brief that players are not for sale. PSG’s position carries more weight because the evidence has already been established on the pitch. They are no longer selling the idea of a post superstar project; they are defending one that has already won .

A Madrid approach for either midfielder would not be a normal offer for a high value asset. It would be an attempt to prise out part of the tactical operating system that made Luis Enrique’s side so difficult to disrupt during their successful Champions League campaign .

The most important consequence is not simply that PSG can say no. It is that Luis Enrique can plan from certainty. Sporting advisor Luis Campos can now focus on complementary profiles: a wide forward who presses with discipline, a defender comfortable stepping into midfield, or another young midfielder who can cover minutes without demanding to replace either starter .

For Madrid, Mendes’ intervention represents a closed door. For PSG, it is more valuable than that: a reminder that the club’s most important summer business may be preserving the midfield that made their European title defence so formidable .
