Kylian Mbappé delivered a Champions League masterclass on Wednesday night, hitting all four goals as Real Madrid edged a chaotic 4–3 victory over Olympiacos to snap a three game winless run in all competitions.
The Spanish champions were rocked early when Chiquinho finished a slick Olympiacos move with a crisp 20 yard strike, but what followed was the Mbappé show and a reminder of why he remains Europe’s most devastating forward.
The France captain brought Madrid level on 22 minutes, bursting onto a sublime Vinícius Júnior pass before drilling through the legs of Kostas Tzolákis. Just two minutes later he nodded in an Arda Güler cross, and he completed his hat trick in extraordinary fashion racing clear and guiding in his third to complete the second fastest treble in Champions League history.
Only Mohamed Salah’s six minute hat trick against Rangers in 2022 was quicker.
Olympiacos refused to fold, though. Mehdi Taremi on as a replacement after Chiquinho’s injury powered in a superb header early in the second half to ignite the home crowd. With Thibaut Courtois out through illness, stand in keeper Andriy Lunin was kept busy throughout.
Madrid had never won away to Greek opposition in seven previous attempts, but Mbappé wasn’t in the mood to let another slip. He tapped in his fourth after excellent work from Vinícius down the left, moving to nine goals in five Champions League games and pulling three clear of Victor Osimhen in the competition’s scoring charts.
Olympiacos still weren’t done. Ayoub El Kaabi struck late to make it 4–3 and set up a tense finale, but Madrid held firm to claim their fourth win from five group matches, a vital response after their defeat at Anfield last time out.
