Those on the anytime scorer market will have felt pretty comfortable already, but he wasn’t done. Just after the hour, Luis Díaz surged into the box and squared for Kane to slide in his second of the night.
By then Bayern were purring. Luis Díaz had already had a hand in the opener – credited in the end as his goal after Jonathan Tah’s inventive backheel – and the Colombian was a menace all evening. Olise twisted and turned in the final third, Serge Gnabry went close, and when Konrad Laimer added a fourth late on, Werder were well beaten.
For punters, the bigger story is Bayern’s form line. Kompany’s side have now rattled off eight wins from eight across all competitions, their strongest start since Carlo Ancelotti’s tenure in 2016/17. The outright market for the Bundesliga title is shrinking by the week, and with Kane hitting 10 goals in his last seven appearances, the striker is quickly becoming the most reliable name in the goalscorer columns.
Those who backed him for a hat-trick at longer prices might curse his 78th-minute withdrawal – Nicolas Jackson entering to deny him a tenth treble in Bayern colours – but the trend is unmistakable. This Bayern side are relentless, Kane looks like scoring every time he plays, and the odds will only get shorter as autumn wears on.
