Inter are plotting their next move between the sticks and while Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario remains the favourite, the Nerazzurri have got their eyes firmly fixed on a young French sensation who’s tearing it up in Ligue 1.
Robin Risser. Remember the name.
The Lens shot stopper, born in 2004, is having a stormer of a season. His club are locked in a proper scrap with PSG for the French title neck and neck, believe it or not and the 21 year old has been a massive reason why.
Inter know all about him. They’ve been tracking him for months. The reports on file at Viale della Liberazione are glowing. But whether they actually pull the trigger depends on one thing: experience or potential?
Vicario in pole
Right now, Vicario is the man in front. The Italian fits the profile Inter want, a keeper who won’t lose his head in front of a packed San Siro. A man, not a kid. Someone who’s been around the block.
Age matters here. Vicario is 29. That’s not old for a keeper. He’s got four, maybe five years of top level football left before he needs to step aside. That’s the kind of timeline the coaching staff are comfortable with.
But there’s a catch. Money.
Vicario would cost proper coin. And Oaktree aren’t exactly throwing cash around like confetti. If the Nerazzurri had a bigger budget, they’d probably be looking at Roma’s Svilar, who’s been brilliant but that’s not happening. Priorities are elsewhere. Goalkeeper spending isn’t top of the list.
The Risser appeal
This is where Risser comes in.
He’s young. He’s talented. He’s got character. And he fits the profile Oaktree actually like, long term potential, sell on value, a player who can grow into the role rather than being handed it on day one.
The Lens kid is destined for a top club. Everyone who’s watched him knows it. And Inter have been doing their homework for a while now. If the April meetings go a certain way if the owners lean towards the youth route, then Risser could shoot straight to the top of the list.
He’s not there yet. Vicario is still the favourite. But in football, things change fast. Especially when money’s tight.
What happens next
April is the big month. Inter will sit down, run through the names, weigh up the pros and cons, and present the owners with a shortlist. Vicario. Risser. Maybe one or two others.
The coach wants a safe pair of hands. The owners want value. The fans just want someone who doesn’t flap at crosses.
Risser is the gamble. Vicario is the safe bet. And somewhere in between, Inter have got to figure out which direction makes most sense.
One thing’s for sure if Lens keep pushing PSG all the way and Risser keeps performing like he has been, that shortlist might get a whole lot shorter.
