Leeds United left back Gabi Gudmundsson has fired back at injury fears with a bold four word promise “See you on Tuesday” after a knee scare on international duty threatened to derail his season.

The 26 year old, who has been a revelation since joining from Lille last summer, limped out of Sweden’s 3-1 win over Ukraine on Thursday night. He took a knock to the knee in the second half, tried to run it off, but was eventually hauled off with an ice pack strapped to the joint.

Sweden finished rock bottom of their World Cup qualification group, a proper stinker, that but scraped into the play offs thanks to their Nations League ranking. Go figure. Now they’re just one game from booking a ticket to this summer’s finals.

Gudmundsson started that Ukraine clash, winning his 22nd cap, but his night ended early. The initial worry was a bad one. Leeds fans held their breath. Daniel Farke probably kicked a water bottle.

But the full back has eased those nerves. Speaking after the match he played it cool, saying it was just about “taking care of his body.” Now he’s doubled down on social media. An Instagram post showing him in Sweden colours alongside a team snap captioned with those four little words.

No panic. No drama. Just a promise.

Sweden now face Poland on Tuesday in the play off final. Win that, and they’re on the plane. Gudmundsson if fit will be crucial. His form for Leeds this term has been outstanding, bombing forward and defending like his life depended on it.

For Leeds, this is massive. They’ve already lost key players to injuries this season. Another one now would be a hammer blow with the run in looming. But it sounds like the Swede has dodged a bullet.

He’s targeting a place at the World Cup. And right now, nothing not even a sore knee is getting in his way.

Next up for Leeds? A return to Championship action after the international break. But first, all eyes are on Tuesday in Poland. Gudmundsson says he’ll be there. Leeds will be praying he’s right.
