BIRMINGHAM, England – England maintained their perfect start to World Cup qualifying with a 2-0 victory over Andorra at Villa Park on Saturday, though Thomas Tuchel’s side were forced to exhibit patience against a defensively resolute opponent ranked 174th in the world.

The Three Lions broke through in the 25th minute when a dangerous cross from Chelsea winger Noni Madueke deflected off the head of Andorran defender Christian García for an own goal. The result was sealed in the 67th minute when Declan Rice powered home a precise header from Reece James’ delivery.

England dominated possession with 83% of the ball and generated numerous opportunities, but were repeatedly frustrated by Andorra’s deep defensive block and goalkeeper Iker Álvarez, who made several sharp saves. Debutant midfielder Elliot Anderson delivered a promising performance, linking effectively in attack and nearly capping his display with a goal.

The victory extends England’s record against Andorra to eight wins from eight meetings, with an aggregate score of 28-0, and leaves them top of Group K with maximum points from four matches. The performance, however, highlighted familiar challenges in breaking down low-block defenses, a recurring theme under Tuchel.

England now turn their attention to a more significant test against group competitors Serbia on Tuesday, where greater attacking incision will be required. For Andorra, the defeat marked a 60th World Cup qualifying loss but reflected a disciplined, if ultimately outclassed, defensive effort.
