LONDON, June 24 Betandsured. Premier League newcomers Coventry City have opened formal negotiations with Göztepe over the signing of Nigerian midfielder Anthony Dennis, with the Turkish club holding out for a €15 million fee for the 22 year old .
The İzmir based outfit, who recently secured a €25 million windfall from the sale of Brazilian forward Rômulo to RB Leipzig, are now looking to replicate that financial blueprint by cashing in on one of their most promising assets . Dennis enjoyed a breakout campaign last season, anchoring Göztepe’s midfield with 31 appearances across all competitions and contributing three goals .
Coventry, preparing for their first Premier League campaign in a quarter century after winning the Championship title, have identified the defensive midfielder as a key target as manager Frank Lampard strengthens his squad for the survival battle ahead . The Sky Blues have been linked with several players across various positions, but Dennis has emerged as a primary midfield target .
Sources close to the negotiations indicate that Göztepe chairman Rasmus Ankersen, currently in London, is expected to hold further discussions with Coventry officials regarding the structure of the deal . While personal terms with the player are not anticipated to be an obstacle, the final payment structure and performance related add ons are still being negotiated .
The interest in the Nigerian, who had previously attracted attention from Trabzonspor, comes as Coventry are also exploring goalkeeper options following Carl Rushworth’s return to Brighton, while managing a squad largely unchanged from their promotion winning campaign . Should the financial parameters be resolved smoothly, the transfer is expected to be finalised and announced before the end of the week .
