Cameroon national team coach Marc Brys believes rising forward Etta Eyong has the talent and mentality to play for FC Barcelona, positioning him as a possible long-term successor to veteran striker Robert Lewandowski.

With Lewandowski in the later stages of his career, Barcelona have begun exploring options to refresh their forward line. Among the profiles attracting attention is Eyong, who impressed earlier in the season with Villarreal before continuing his progress at Levante.

“He Has the Potential to Play for Barca” Brys

Brys, who recently integrated Eyong into the Cameroon national setup, spoke highly of the 21-year-old in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, stressing both his technical level and personality.

“He’s a very good player. Very modest and humble, which is a gift. He’s not self-centred; he plays for the team. I like that. He’s hardworking and creates attention so that others can utilise space. He was an important addition to the squad.”

Beyond ability, Brys pointed to character and professionalism as defining qualities.

“He has a good heart, is well mannered, without negative attitudes. That makes him special. He needs to continue growing, but he has the potential to score many goals. He has not yet reached his maximum level.”

The Dutch manager believes Eyong’s growth trajectory mirrors that of Barcelona’s breakout talents.

“I think he has the potential to play for Barca, yes. In a team, there is room for a new player if he has the qualities. Look at Lamine Yamal, a year ago, no one thought he would play in the first team, and now he is essential.”

Brys described Eyong as a forward capable of unlocking defenses with creativity and unpredictability.

“He is dangerous, unpredictable, he can surprise anyone. And that is valuable for any big team.”

Why Barcelona Are Considering Attacking Reinforcements

Lewandowski, now in his mid-30s and entering the final years of his contract, remains a key figure but the club is planning ahead as part of a long term squad rebuild. Barcelona have been assessing several forward options across Europe, prioritising players who combine mobility, tactical versatility, and long-term upside rather than a like for like traditional No. 9.

Eyong fits the profile of a modern, high-work-rate attacker capable of pressing, linking play, and finishing qualities highly valued under Hansi Flick’s tactical model.

Eyong’s Rapid Rise

Eyong’s emergence this season has drawn attention due to:

His strong performances in La Liga

His adaptability across attacking roles

His maturity despite limited top flight experience

His potential market value compared to more established stars

Still early in his professional journey, the Levante star is viewed as a developmental signing rather than an immediate marquee replacement.

What Happens Next?

At this stage:

Barcelona are monitoring, not negotiating

Eyong remains focused on club and national duties

His future may depend on Levante’s valuation and Barca’s budget flexibility

If his progression continues, he could rise from prospect to priority target especially if Lewandowski’s exit timeline accelerates.
